Mission Statement:  The Indian Creek Aquatic Club provides an educational, competitive, and nurturing program that leads its swimmers to achieve excellence.
ICAC's Vision:  ICAC inspires to be Indiana's #1 small club.

The INDIAN CREEK AQUATIC CLUB (ICAC) is a competitive swimming team and learn to swim program for all ages and abilities. The club’s philosophy focuses around each individual swimmer’s development of stoke technique, training capacity, and most importantly, the enjoyment of the sport. ICAC is a member of Indiana Swimming and USA Swimming.  Indiana Swimming is a volunteer organization that administers locally, the programs of USA Swimming (USAS).  USAS is the national governing body for the sport. It formulates rules and policies, conducts national meets, disseminates safety information and selects athletes for international teams. Any girl or boy age five or older that can meet the minimum requirements established for the group may join ICAC. (See group criteria for specific requirements.) In order to swim for ICAC, a swimmer must be registered with USA Swimming (USAS) for insurance purposes. The cost is $81.00 for a year round membership (short course season through long course season) or $39.50 for a seasonal membership (long course season only). There is also a FLEX membership for USA Swimming ($20) which allows for only 2 meets.  This cost is NOT included in the club fees.  The Indian Creek Aquatic Club uses a “progressive” age group program designed to develop the child physically, mentally and emotionally in a systematic fashion. A well-defined long-term approach of gradually increasing degrees of commitment is essential to reach peak performance levels during a swimmer’s physiological prime. The emphasis in the early stages of participation must be placed on developing technical skills and a love for the sport. In the later years, a more demanding physical and psychological challenge must be introduced to the training program. In this respect, “too much too soon” is more often the cause of failure to achieve maximum potential in senior swimming than in the reverse situation.

In addition to emphasizing long-term rather than short-term results, it is also important that we establish training groups of swimmers who are compatible in respect to abilities, age, commitment levels and goals. Unfortunately, this is not always the most convenient approach to take, but it is always the most productive.

At each level, the goals and objectives are specific and directed toward meeting the needs of the swimmer. The long-term goal of total excellence is always in mind. As each child is different, he/she will progress at his/her own rate. The coaching staff recognizes this fact by making team assignments based on a swimmer’s physical, mental and emotional level of development.

Based upon this philosophy, Indian Creek Aquatic Club in organized into two tracts: Age Group and Performance.  Within each tract, specific training groups are designed to target the needs of our athletes. Our progressive program is structured as follows.

The AGE GROUP tract will emphasize competitive fundamentals including body position, breathing, rhythm skills, and breath control as we teach stroke technique through a developmental progression.  Swimmers will learn the long axis strokes (freestyle and backstroke) and the short axis strokes (butterfly and breaststroke) will be introduced into the progression.   As swimmers progress through the AGE GROUP tract, they are ready to enhance their stroke work as well as incorporate basic training principals. Emphasis will then be to develop the IM swimmer as well as consistently performing competitive skills (streamlining, head position, turns).  Swimmers in this tract will have practices ranging from 2 days a week for MAKOS up to 6 days a week for SENIORS.  Age and skill set will determine what group a swimmer will be placed.

The MAKOS group is designed for swimmers that are ready to develop their swimming fundamentals into competitive strokes. Swimmers must be able to float independently and swim 25 yards. This group will practice two times a week for one hour.

Swimming Meets are one of the most rewarding and fun parts about swimming; therefore, we highly encourage our swimmers to participate in meets. Swimmers will compete in their own age group and ability level.  In USAS, there are two seasons: long course and short course. The long course season is the “summer” season and takes place from mid-April to the end of July with meets typically held in 50-meter pools. The short course season is the “winter” season and runs from late September to the beginning of March and meets are held in 25-yard pools.  Each season culminates with the State and National Championships. During the short course season, swimmers may also qualify for the Indiana Divisional Championships. In order to attend these meets, you must qualify by meeting a set time standard. It is one of ICAC’s goals to have as many swimmers as possible to qualify for these meets, so be ready to SWIM FAST!

Financial Information:  There is a non-refundable registration fee  ($30 individual/ $50 family).  Membership fees can be paid in monthly installments.  There are family discounts and full payment discounts.  USAS fees not included in membership fees.  Most meets require a minimal fee.  Team apparel is available.  We do offer scholarships -  contact Coach Smith for more information on scholarships.  (Automatic qualify if athlete takes part of Hoosier Healthwise or free/reduced school lunch)
